1: How secure is Keepit?
Keepit uses a 256 bit encryption key, making it extremely secure. You can read more in the Terms of Service and declaration of secrecy, regarding the responsibility for your files, we gladly take on our shoulders.

2: What happens if I loose my encryption key?
We always recommend that you keep a copy of your encryption key when using Keepit. You can save a copy on a USB device or print it out on paper. IF you should lose your encryption key please contact our service team that can assist you in getting a new copy of your encryption key. This is managed in a complex offline proces (with plenty of security checks) and thus takes 10 working days to proces a key restore.

3: When does Keepit backup my files?
Keepit backups the files and folders you have selected on a daily basis. The backup will be done in the background. Should the backup be interrupted, it will continue where it stopped when possible.

5: Does Keepit create a full backup each day?
If you have large amounts of data, a full backup would take quite an amount of time. Keepit compensates for that by only doing a backup of changed or new files, as well as saving the full restore version for the latest 30 days.

6: Where are my files saved?
Your backup is encrypted and saved in our state of the art server centers, found at separate geographical locations. That's right - we backup the backup. These server centers also handles large business solutions and over 130.000 hosting accounts for Surftown.

7: How long will it take to backup my files?
How long a backup takes depends on multiple factors; such as number of files and how fast your internet connection is. A quick example: If you have an upload speed of 512 kbit, you can upload 3 MB per minut. That is approximately 6 hours for 1 GB. If you have 10 GB files (songs, pictures etc.) the backup will take up to 3 days (!) the first time; however, after doing the first backup, Keepit will only backup new or changed files (Keepit can actually stop at only saving the changed part of a large file) - so after the first long backup it should be fairly fast.

8: How do I restore my files, if I need to?
We have created a simple guide, which can be found under the login section of www.keepit.com. Restoring a file from a backup is very simple.

9: How long will it take to restore my files?
Restoring your file is faster than creating the backup. Your internet connection is normally 4 times as fast when downloading data than uploading.

10: Does Keepit work with Mac or Linux?
Not yet - but we are close. Our client is created to be relatively easy to adapt to other operating systems; however, it does take a little while.
